Spring is cancelled this year II

Here is a different take on the same subject matter as my last post.  Instead of using my digital SLR, I shot these using black and white film on the Hasselblad.  The square format gives a different, perhaps more formal feel, and the black and white lends a more sombre and melancholy note.





The snow has all but disappeared now, and much as I enjoy using the snow as a backdrop to my photographs, I sincerely hope we have seen the last of it for this year!

Spring is cancelled this year

In January I posted some similar images on this blog and my Hymn to the Hipstamatic blog. Who would have thought that two months later we would still be in the same situation? The snow continues to fall even as I write. Roll on summer.....

More snow

Had enough of the snow now!   Here are some photos taken on a brief walk between snow flurries  - thought I'd better get out with my camera before the predicted thaw sets in at the weekend and we get back to soggy brown fields.....

Snowbound

I always say I love the snow yet when it comes, I'm reluctant to venture outside.  Looking out the window, I see a sky heavy and featureless as the snow falls in fine flakes.  It's not tempting me to step out! Inside it's warm and snug - the perfect excuse to settle down and watch the world transform itself through the window. It's not long before the garden attracts a variety of wildlife visitors in search of food.....just a shame that my zoom lens is in London!

Snowfall and signs of Spring

A light smattering of snow and the countryside is transformed, disguising the drab winter colours under a frosty mantle.  A short morning walk in the bright sunshine revealed a world of strong shadows with the snow defining shapes and accentuating outlines.  And amidst it all, the first signs of spring - the soft green of primrose leaves peeking out beneath the snowy crystals....
